Jonathan Gatt is the Musical Director for the Brisbane Water Brass Band.

Jonathan Gatt began his musical career playing Tenor Horn with St.Marys District Brass Band in 1978. Since then he has had numerous successes in both Local and National Championships including the following Championship titles:

  • 1991 and 1993 AUSTRALIAN OPEN TENOR HORN CHAMPION (Five times Runner-Up - 1994, 1996, 1998, 2002, 2003)
  • 1992, 1994, 1997 and 2004 NSW STATE OPEN TENOR HORN CHAMPION (Seven Times Runner Up - 1989, 1990, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2003)
  • 2010 NSW STATE BARITONE SOLO CHAMPION
  • 1996 and 1999 AUSTRALIAN OPEN CONCERT BAND EUPHONIUM CHAMPION
  • 1996 AUSTRALIAN OPEN CONCERT BAND CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
  • 1987, 1996 & 2002 WESTERN DISTRICTS OPEN TENOR HORN CHAMPION(Runner Up 1988)
  • 1996 WESTERN DISTRICTS CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
  • 1997 WESTERN DISTRICTS OPEN EUPHONIUM CHAMPION
  • 1987, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 HUNTER SOLOS OPEN TENOR HORN CHAMPION (Runner Up 1986, 1988)
  • 2006 HUNTER SOLOS OPEN EUPHONIUM CHAMPION
  • 1994, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 HUNTER SOLO BRASS CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS (Runner Up 1995)
  • 1994, 1996, 2008 PENRITH EISTEDDFOD BRASS CHAMPION ( Runner Up 1995, 1997)

Jonathan was a proud member of the 1981, 1983 and 1985 NSW State Youth Brass Bands (which toured New Zealand and Australia), the 1998 and 2001 Australian Brass Band, Sydney Brass from 1989 until it was last formed in 1996 and Pacific Brass for their May 2002 CD Recording.

Jonathan is very versatile and can play almost every brass instrument and tuned/auxillary Percussion. His musical activities have extended to the lighter side of music where he has played Trombone professionally in Stage Bands and "Rhythm and Blues" groups, doing the pubs and clubs scene around Sydney and NSW, as well as Musicals with the Gosford and Woy Woy Musical Societies. He also, occasionally, plays French Horn and Trombone with the Penrith Symphony Orchestra.

Jonathan is a former Musical Director of the Penrith City Concert Band, and was co-Musical Director of the 1993 NSW State Youth Concert Band and the 1994-1995-1997-1998-2000-2001 Band Association of NSW Workshop Bands. He is a former Assistant Musical Director of both the St.Marys Band Club Brass Band and the City of Sydney Wind Ensemble, both A Grade Bands. He is the current Musical Director of Parramatta City Brass Band. At the end of 2012 Jonathan retired as the Musical Director of Brisbane Water Brass Band and was reappointed at the beginning of 2015.

Jonathan greatly enjoys adjudicating and has adjudicated both Bands and Soloists at State, Metropolitan and Regional Contests and Eisteddfods.

Jonathan was a member of the Committee of the Band Association of NSW Inc. for 15 years from 1992 to 2007 holding the position of Vice President for 7.5 years and President for 2.5 years.

Jonathan has been the Principal Solo Tenor Horn at St. Marys District Brass Band since 1985 and principal Euphonium at the City of Sydney Concert Band since 2000. He is a Financial Controller by profession.
