Joint band concert - 11 March 2007

The brass was blazing at Parramatta RSL Club on Sunday 11 March 2007 for an audience of over 250 - including Parramatta Deputy Mayor Paul Barber.

The concert was a joint event by sister bands, Parramatta City Brass and Brisbane Water Brass. Parramatta City Brass opened with a sure-fire crowd pleaser, the trombone feature I Will Follow Him. Featured soloists in the Parramatta program included Michael Riley, solo cornet in Three Kings Swing and Colleen Riley with the haunting flugal solo in Ashokan Farewell and also with the tenor horn section in Spanish Horns.

Brisbane Water Brass highlighted their performance with a rarely seen timbral display for the march Pendine. Featured soloists for Brisbane Water Brass were Charles Stewart (cornet), Ken Townsend (Soprano cornet) and Bernard Leonard (trombone).

The concert concluded with a joint performance of the combined bands, the highlight being MD Jonathan Gatt’s tenor horn solo Over the Rainbow.

Raffle gift baskets were donated by Simply Essential Oils and MBF not only donated the door prize and a raffle basket but also the services of MBF staff to assist in selling raffle tickets. It was a great banding afternoon that was also a great community effort.
