Brisbane Water Brass

Brisbane Water Brass - Who we are ...

Brisbane Water Brass is a community brass band on the NSW Central Coast. The band was formed in November 2003 by a small group of enthusiastic brass players. Brisbane Water Brass brings together people with a wide range of musical experience and ability, from professional musicians, to relatively inexperienced players with a desire to improve their skills.

Brisbane Water Brass has the simple aims of making good music in a friendly, supportive environment, and sharing this music with the community. The band was fortunate to have secured the services of Jonathan Gatt as its Musical Director. Jonathan a highly accomplished brass player, teacher, examiner and conductor. He is also the Vice-President of the NSW Brass Band Association. Under Jonathan's direction, the band developed an extensive repertoire of traditional, popular and modern pieces.

At the end of 2012 Jonathan retired as our Musical Director and we were fortunate to secure the services of Robert Thompson as our Musical Director. Robert is an accomplished musician who has a Bachelor of Music (Honours) and has a a Master of Teaching. Robert has been a Band Director at many NSW Private and Public schools. Robert is the principle Trombone player in the Gunnedah Shire Band.

The beginning of 2015 saw the appointment of Jonathon Gatt as the musical director following the transfer of Robert Thompson to Wagga Wagga .

In April 2017 Jonathon resigned and Michael Forsyth was appointed as musical director.

Brisbane Water Brass welcomes the opportunity to play at social, community events. During the past year, the band has played at over 20 such functions. The band practices at 8.00 pm each Tuesday at Phillip House (the home of the Rotary Club of Kariong/Somersby), 21 Old Mount Penang Road, Kariong. The band would welcome enquiries from prospective players.
